Service Advisor Job Description

A Service Advisor is a key point of contact between customers and the service department of an automotive dealership or repair shop. They are responsible for managing the customer experience by accurately diagnosing customer needs and advising them on the services required for their vehicles. This role requires strong communication skills, technical knowledge of automotive systems, and a focus on customer service to ensure a satisfactory service experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for customers bringing their vehicles in for service.
  • Evaluate customer concerns and document service requests accurately in the system.
  • Provide customers with detailed information regarding service options, pricing, and estimated timelines.
  • Develop service recommendations based on customer needs and vehicle condition.
  • Schedule service appointments and follow up with customers regarding their vehicles.
  • Coordinate with technicians to ensure timely and efficient service delivery.
  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by managing issues and complaints professionally.
  • Keep up-to-date with product knowledge and service updates to provide informed advice.
  • Ensure that all necessary paperwork and documentation are processed accurately and promptly.
  • Process payments and handle customer transactions in a helpful and efficient manner.
  • Promote additional services or products based on customer needs and shop capabilities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional automotive training or certification is a plus.
  • Previous experience in customer service or automotive service advisory positions preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Basic understanding of automotive systems and repair processes.
  • Proficiency in using service management software and Microsoft Office suite.
